Saving Your Assets When You Can't Save Your Marriage

Authors: John M. Wood, Paul B., Jr Shaw, and Paul B. Shaw Jr.
Average review score:

This book helped me with my financial needs!
I am a mother of two children married to a successful business person. This book helped me prepare my case and find assets in the business. Our case is still pending but I have already received more information from this book than I have from my lawyer during the entire case. I recommend it to anyone considering a divorce. I especially appreciate the list of professionals contained in the back of the book and the social security information. This should be required reading for anyone who is going through a divorce.

School for Atheists (Green Integer: EL-E-PHANT 53)
Published in Paperback by Green Integer Books (01 December, 2000)
Authors: Arno Schmidt and John E. Woods
Average review score:

Schmidt's Joycean Comedy
This is one of Schmidt's "superbooks," a large format novel with unusual page layouts, illustrations, and puns a'plenty. Nowhere near as difficult as Zettel's Traum or Evening Edged in Gold, it's a rollicking tale of culture-clash set in the near future (with an extended flashback to 1969), and features a typical Schmidt protagonist (a walking encyclopedia of an old codger), two delightful 17-year-old girls, a visiting American Secretary of State nicknamed Isis, and many more. If you've read & like Schmidt, you'll love this (once again heroically translated by the amazing John E. Woods). And if you don't know Schmidt, you don't know one of the greatest writers of the 20th century--which means you have some catching up to do, and may as well start here.

The School Survival Guide for Kids With Ld*: (*Learning Differences (Learning Differences)
Published in Paperback by Free Spirit Publishing (September, 1991)
Authors: Rhoda Woods Cummings, Gary L. Fisher, and Pamela Espeland
Average review score:

LD Students CAN Help Themselves in School
Kids with learning disabilities often feel like failures in school. Their past experiences tell them that they are helpless to find ways to compete and succeed in the classroom. This book gives many practical, helpful suggestions that can turn a student who feels like a loser into a winner! The best thing an LD student can do is become his or her own best advocate. The ideas in this book make that possible. It is easy to read (about a third grade reading level) and organized clearly. Some of the chapters are titled: You CAN Get Organized, You CAN Learn in Different Ways, You CAN Handle Testing, You CAN Get Along with Others, etc. This emphasis on "you CAN" is just what people with learning disabilities need! The authors also include lists of suggestions for becoming a better reader, speller, more organized, etc. If you know someone with a learning disability, do that person and yourself a favor and get this book. Read it together, if possible. Rhoda Cummings and Gary Fisher have written several books about what they call Learning Differences (LD), and this is one of the best!

Althy, Emmy, Chris, Debbie and Bonnie's adventures
This series of books (Happy Little Family, Up and Down the River, Schoolhouse in the Woods and Schoolroom in the Parlor) is a wonderful set of stories about five children and their adventures. My friends and I affectionately refered to them as the "Bonnie books" and they will be enjoyed by those who love the Little House books, The Saturdays' series, the Sydney Taylor series (All of a Kind Family) and the current American Girl phenomenon. Highly recommended!
